Publications
National Rural Health Network members (including AURHA) have put together the following publications for rural club members:
- Mental Health Guide:
- Rural Placements Guide:
- Periodicals:
The development of a mental health guide was a project arising from the 2004 NRHN conference (NURHC). The project is funded by beyondblue (the National Depression Initiative), and the contents of the guide has been compiled by students. ‘When the Cowpat Hits the Windmill‘ was launched by The Honourable Jeff Kenett at the 2007 NRHN Forum. The guide contains information on general mental health maintenance as well as directing students to crisis support. We encourage other people to access the guide, and believe many strategies outlined will be of wide use. Copies have been in high demand, and as such a second print has needed to be ordered. An electronic copy (*.pdf format) is available at www.nrhn.org.au.
An online survey has been set up on the website, for feedback on the guide. The survey only takes 5 minutes and will be useful for future versions to be printed. The NRHN recognize this first pilot edition of the guide can be improved in many ways, and will welcome constructive criticism and suggestions very enthusiastically!
This publication, subtitled ‘How to make the most of your rural placement‘ was a project initiated in 2006. It includes handy tips from students who have been on rural placements, notes on cultural awareness and on maintaining patient confidentiality in small communities. These are to be distributed amongst AURHA members during the remainder of 2007. An electronic copy is also accessible on the NRHN website.
The NRHN also publish a newsletter ‘Cooee‘ several times a year, which is sent out to AURHA members. Contact AURHA’s NRHN representative if you would like a copy. And don’t forget AURHA’s own periodical publication ‘Rouseabout‘. See the Rouseabout page for more information.
